Because everything about the way the character acts and feels screams autism. The symptoms are pretty well all there. Whether or not the author said he is autistic, he still has the symptoms.
He technically also didn't believe he was gay and has always thought about being with women but I can't imagine you'd sit here and tell me he isn't gay/bisexuality after everything lol
