I think the misunderstanding is that she didn't know the guy she thought was with Ms Henderson was the same guy who ruined her life???

The understanding is that Ms. Henderson thinks that Anna knows about her sordid past with that man because Anna revealed she knew of him. However, what Anna didn't clarify was that the man didn't exactly reveal, he just eluded to knowing and being in a relationship with Ms. Henderson, the latter of which being wholly untrue.

Ms. Henderson got upset and felt betrayed because she thought Anna was different in that she would not be easily persuaded and thinks she looks down on her for her past. But that's not the case at all. Anna is conflicted because she likes Ms. Henderson and is really just trying to consider the man because he's been feeding her lies about his relationship with Ms. Henderson all the whole completely fabricating his true intentions because he knows it will drive a wedge between them.

But Anna was too shy to explain the nature of what she really knows, which is nothing, because she's thinks he and Ms. Henderson are seeing each other. So with Anna not speaking up, Ms. Henderson jumped to conclusions and this is where we are now.
