"Fob" is a discriminatory term to refer to new immigrants to a country. It means "Fresh Off Boat" (f.o.b), and refers to new immigrants who are not cultured to the ways of the new country they immigrated to. Or in other words, because they bring much of their own culture that is different from the new country they immigrated to. It's an offensive term to new immigrants because it expresses disdain for their cultural differences.
As a second-generation Chinese person growing up in Canada, I hear the term "fob" mostly used to describe Asians who prefer to retain their ethnic cultures and live life more ethnically. I mean all Asians, the Chinese, Koreans, Fillipinos, Indians, Sri Lankans,Pakistanis, Indonesians, Malaysians, Singaporeans, Vietnamese, Laotians, Burmese, etc. I mean, we can't be the only ones immigrating!? There must be a lot of Europeans and other non-Asian looking people immigrating too! Yet "fob" seems to describe just people who don't look Caucasian. At least, that is what I have observed around me so far.
It's used very casually because these days, most people don't really understand the discriminatory root of this term. They just think it means an "immigrant who is new to Canada". But in meaning, it really is rude, because it's meant to be discriminatory.
I thought she called him a Fob.
Anyway, PLEASSEEE allow the leads to just be honest with each other and confess already without all these external factors!!! I BEG
