That part where he first invites Satou out and misunderstands that Satou doesn't want to be with him is kind of telling. He's terribly self-conscious and his self-esteem was taking a hit so it was very brave of him to ask Satou if he wasn't interested anymore. Satou delivers quickly though. He quickly realizes that he needed to balance out his need to push and Kudou's need to express himself.
