"He's one of my own" wtf does that mean?

I would imagine it would relate to phrases like "he's one of mine" or "he's one of my people." Most wouldn't claim someone you don't like. Dan is likely thinking too favorably about the phrase. I would read that as Dan is someone he trusts at best, but that isn't necessarily bad in itself.
