Wait if I think about this a bit more maybe the author realised maybe making the guy watch the dragon reach adult hood naturally would seem even weirder than it is now. Yeah just very awkward. I’d at least like to see more of the background of how dragons mate or choose a partner. Like if it’s something to do with his energy and soul. But pure sexual scenes and ignoring their relationship prior is soooo odd
