HARD AGREE OML i was getting genuinely swayed by all these ‘poor eclis’ comments but this pulled me back to my senses! First of all, I think we’re all glossing over the fact that he is a SLAVE. We’re too caught up in our world where slavery is frowned upon and illegal to realise just how massive a difference there is between these two. This isn’t a commoner x noble love story and even if it was, eclis still wouldn’t qualify in my eyes for that (i’ll get to it in a sec), it’s a lady second only to the royal family and someone even commoners spit on. Even a single interaction between them would be unheard of, yet this woman has paid a frankly unbelievable amount (we gloss over that way to often, enough to buy a diamond mine!!!!) just to have him, and doesn’t treat him like crap?! With what literally anybody else would’ve done with eclis, that alone should be way more than enough (again, i’m not saying it’s all he deserves but in the world he knows he lives in, that should’ve been at the very very very top end of his expectations). Now, not only does this woman not treat you like crap, she brings you to her manor, gives you a lowkey super high position as her personal guard, spends a paycheck befitting of a prince on you, is actually NICE to you - and what does she get in return? A toddler who throws tantrums instead of training when it turns out she actually has a life to live. A liability who threatens her brother and slanders the crown prince, putting her in danger (deffo would’ve gotten her immediately killed if she hadn’t worked so hard on their favourability).
After all she’s done, you have the audacity to be angry that her smile isn’t genuine 100% of the time? She should be whipping you on the daily and forcing you to do unspeakables with the price she paid, yet you’re mad that she doesn’t love you when you can’t even offer sweet words in her distress. All he does is take, eclis has no right to expect love. Even in a modern/same status setting, if a character brought absolutely nothing to the table I wouldn’t root for them?? Why should it be any different here? He’s like her pet which is a dynamic i wouldn’t mind, but it’s his expectation of a romantic relationship like it’s his God-given right even though he’s done nothing deserving of it that pisses me off

Honestly though, it made me burst out laughing when I read your comment. I was so happy someone feels as passionate about not liking his character, plus the beginning statement really made an impact. The visual of me yanking you hard back to the dark side was so funny (≧∀≦)

I really don't like Eclis lol, he infuriates me and I don't know why cuz he isn't really that bad? I guess? But now I know why I can't get on board with this ship. It's because he's the sad boi who expects the person he likes to like him as well. Ohmyfckinggod it fcking irritated me when he was acting all jealous when Penelope had something important to do and can't pay attention to him. Penelope always have to adjust to his outbursts in order to placate him, ugh I fcking hate this type of character the most, sue me.
I commented last chapter that Penelope and Callisto was similar due to their experiences and actions. Well, Eclis is kinda on the same situation being stuck as a slave with no known escape, but the difference is their mindsets. The first two is doing the best they could in order to get out of their shackles, sacrificing and compromising what they want just to do so, Eclis in the other hand willingly wears the chains tying him down. While there isn't anything wrong with a man so utterly besotted he'll gladly be your slave, Eclis somehow does it so fcking bad. He's the type that was dependent on everything Penelope gives, he's got nothing to offer, nothing to fall in love with, no charm at all jfc. And he has the audacity to ask for more of her lmao. Ugh he's just so pathetic as a character, no redeeming qualities. Has he even done anything for Penelope? I can't even remember! The relationship is so skewed, with Penelope providing everything so he'll fall in love with her, and him doing nothing, getting jealous and expecting his feelings to be reciprocated!? I hate that the most, he ain't even doing anything to make her fall for him and yet he wants the love to be mutual? And now he's like a ticking time bomb again, getting mad when Penelope is sad instead of comforting her shhxvjsjsjguiidh I can't believe he's getting everything wrong! Opportunities are practically laid in front of him and yet he's fumbling every single time ugh.
