Yeah, but like, they have already stated that the souls of the spirits don't have past lives. They were meant to be spirits, their souls are different. So there is no possible way that El was another human before he was the Elqueeness.
i saw a comment a while ago with a theory that it's a time skip and El goes into the past later on, pretends to become fake El, and then goes back. that would also explain why Elrien calls both El and fake El his son

So we all know how el's soul was put in a wrong body in a wrong world causing him to have a horrible miserable life but from what they're showing us this el was the one that died, their soul went to another universe when they were supposed to become elqueeness but you know mix up and after that el died and finally become what he was supposed to which is current el. The reason I think he forgot is all reincarnated people forget their past so when el died he forgot everything, now I dont quite understand why trowell doesnt remember when sibel does but im pretty sure they'll reveal more
