i personally believe that, lyle only says that specifically because the old him crave for connection and such things as love because it is something he doesn't have and hasn't had a chance to experience all his life, but in the bigger context of everyone else, i believe that living comfortably and happily regardless of what the presence of romantic relationships or the lack there of may add into your daily life. because at the end of the day, humans needs social connections, and communities, and this never and will never will be only in a romantical context, platonics, and familial are also social connections, hence, being alone isn't ever , a lack of smth in your life :) hope this came across okay , because I'm not trying to like impose on another beliefs yk
But seriously the last lines of Lyle's POV is soooo striking my heart, makes me wonder and imagine do I need to see the other side or am I longing to have someone aside from family and friends to make me feel loved.....
