One of my peeves about “sucking up to fam so that I avoid my death flag” stories is that there rarely is a clear enough line where the sucking up passes from “for my own benefit” to “I genuinely care about these people and I am caring about them because I love them”.
The FL has declared that, while she sympathises on the similar situations she’s experienced, she doesn’t really consider them family that she’s gonna stick around in. She may have cried when when her father greeted her after school but any affection-starved person is gonna react that way. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
She has a right to be a little jaded about family thanks to what the soul switch did and having experienced abuse in her actor life as well as watching her true life die for 20 years. But I hope there is a point where she comes round, believes they care for her and she no longer has to mentally tip toe on whether she’ll trigger her sudden death.
