Yea… my first instinct is that the hero was blackmailed or smth. “Marry the princess or we will kill the witch” or “or we will kill the witch,” but when he found out he protested/pleaded and they gave him the condition of letting her live if he married thr princess.

Don't tell me the former hero got brainwashed with a drug or was fed lies by the kingdom about the mc. Very tragic story. This is a "false villainess" manhwa taking a realistic approach (emotionally speaking, not the fantasy aspect) where justice doesn't prevail here sadly.
Also screw those humans for condemning her.
