I still don't get why the dad was so hostile. Did I miss something?

Not really, the dad has trust issues even with his son. He said before that he only took him in bc he needed someone to take over the business. So to the father, his son is just an asset that he cannot completely trust. Sure there might be some more backstories behind all 3 of them but that is for the future chapters to show.
