Years apart does the trick. You can cone back with a solid foundation, knowing what you will and won't compromise with. A lot of people may not understand that because it either hasn't happened to you, or you're unforgiving by nature. But it works for some. Worked for me. I'll be celebrating my 10 year this coming month. Know him for 13, had a year break because we couldn't give each other what we needed and all that was left was hurt for a bit. Change on our own was necessary, until we could get to the point where we could confidently change together.
