rather than an option I think it was an exploration of both characters. But as you finish you will notice that he IS seen in a negative light but the way it's done is weird on the author's part. It comes off as apologetic

he’s not considered an “option”, more like a tool for seunghee’s character development and it’s very relatable to real queer experiences with loneliness.
