I also assumed that's where this story is going to go bc of her blaming herself for murder. Like there has to be a screw loose in her head to just jump back in a loving relationship with him. ╮(￣▽￣)╭

You know, I think the only way to make this kinda yandere story work is to make her also a bit yandere. There was that chapter that mentioned she had all these pics of him- lean into that, have her view him like an idol who can do no wrong and she is his biggest stan.
Start the story the same way, with her being normal (but dumb), then slowly show that she is also unhealthily obsessed with him and that's why she blamed herself for her own murder
