Wait they were just wearing a mask in the novel?? I mean it would make sense why they changed it cause the fans are still able to recognize them with a mask (Additionally, a hoodie, a sunglasses or a hat. I mean people who wear those are suspicious and not only one but 4?? (if I remember correctly) people will really think they are some famous artist when a group of people are trying to cover their faces)
I thought it was me who badly read that part ! The full-on costume sounds ridiculous but it makes more sense
