so the whole plot in the end is that J wanted a successor ( M ) more powerful than him who can break the "name curse" thingy because as like the wolf / tiger ( i forgot his name ) the furry who took in young J, couldn't handle the burden of being alone without their master or owner or some shit so they pass the burden on to someone really devoted and obsessed and crazy and narcissistic as M by tempting the said person into becoming stronger than them, so that they can say their name which like is an instant suicide to get rid of the guilt / burden. because at that point in time, nobody like literally nobody could say J's name making him sorta ( or really ) immortal. sorry if this is confusing
and i think the reason why wald died is bc he said superior J's name on purpose
