But on the topic, no they said it in one of the chapters that although the elder brother of the ML was in love with the MC's mom, she has no blood ties to the Lu family in any way. Her father is someone entirely else, I think in the original you meet the dad [unless I'm thinking of another series too]. I know he's still alive.

Can't recall what the family drama was that ML's mother doesn't like the MC's mom, but know there was such a huge misunderstanding later that the mom thought her husband was having an affair with the MC's mom, but he just treasured her like a daughter and wanted nothing more than to protect the MC even though he had no legal reason to protect her, but this is why he wants the MC to marry into the family. He believed he owed it to the MC's mom and his eldest son since their love was shredded by the mother.
