I think it's just that Dan is not the kind of person who would do such a thing as sell out someone. Even if he wasn't in love or indebted to Jaekyung. Even if he could potentially save his grandmother. He wouldn't do it because he's a consistent person. So, his ethics wouldn't change depending on the circumstances. He's the sort of person to do the right thing, regardless of profit or loss.
