It's either because reader usually love 2nd male lead,
Or author wants a girl whom wanted by hot guy. Two hot guys.

I really hate it when they add in an unnecessary second male lead. It's very obvious from the get go that he never has a chance. They never flesh the character out he's always just throw away to make the fl look better. I wish authors would put more effort into these love triangles
