Tbh I wished the plot twist about the blonde wasn’t a thing. Butch lesbians are cool and all, but why can’t it just be a boy that is topped by his bodyguard gf???

Agreed, I wished the blonde stayed as a boy instead of a girl. It would’ve made the plot different, and a nice change for once since we don’t see a lot of straight lovers in GL stories anymore

    Wait what?

    Ain't that blondie a man??

If not, I'd agree with you. The drama would be so much more fun if everyone assumes she's straight and has a straight love triangle, just for the white-hair girl to be gay for the protag.

I'm saying it would spice up the story. The drama would be worst and the tea would be better.

?? sure ...with how FL is acting I think she can spice it up for everyone on her own....I don't personally like seeing straight couples in gl. Had plenty of that before. But each to their own ig.

Why wouldn’t we? I personally don’t mind seeing straight couples in a GL. While it’s great seeing all the characters being girls, having atleast one guy makes it a nice change, Plus just like “JustAStranger” said, it would spice the story up.

Only the bodyguard knows it though, everyone else thinks they're a man so it's basically the same, sure in the future it might be revealed they're a woman but is that really important? None of the main characters like mu yang romantically and are actually pushing them out of the picture so I don't know how having a man would spice up a story that's supposed to be a gl, if you want to see a straight couple u can simply look at other comics. P.S. they've shown that class president (i know the class pres isn't that important to the story since he could have just been used for that chapter but still) and I'm sure they will show more characters in the future so you can't assume there won't be any men in the story, and even if it doesn't does that really matter when the story is supposed to revolve around the love story of two girls? I can understand your point of view but someone's gender is up to the author plus it won't affect the story at all, in my opinion the fact mu yang is a girl is actually nice since it could shock many characters who thought they were a man, including meng nian's mother.

I do agree with u tbh, I am gonna rephrase a little of what I had said previously since I don’t think my point came out correctly at all. What I meant was I “personally” would’ve preferred mu yang to be a man, I don’t mind them being a woman at all and I understand since this story is about girls. What u said about reading other comics with “straight couples” is understandable but I didn’t say I wanted to read a straight story, all I said was I don’t MIND seeing a straight couple in a girls love story. Also I didn’t come off right when I said I didn’t mind seeing “atleast one guy”, what I meant was I like seeing a variety of the 2 genders although I do prefer having more women than man obviously (also I don’t really care about it that much since I’m reading this mostly for the main characters). I understand it was the authors choice for mu yang to be a woman, that’s why I said I “personally” would’ve like her to be a man, I absolutely do not mind that mu yang turned out to be a woman. I do apologize if what I said came off wrong

As the original commenter I need to better explain myself.
Firstly, I don’t want to be diplomatic in this regard so I’ll outright say I think it’s too close-minded to only want female characters in GL. The real world is not like this, some men are around sapphics and end up being wonderful allies or perhaps insignificant but still amicable.
I get that some people enjoy stories for the sense of escapism they give, but I personally think insisting that everyone in the story is gay is ridiculous. I am bi and to be this “one way or another” tracked-mind some readers have is annoying. If we say “Love Is Love”, than what is the matter with diversity in couples in a story? And for God’s sake I am not saying I want straight development in a GL story. In no way it would be necessary for Young Master x Bodyguard to be a side couple that gets a lot of screen time and development. They coud

They could simply be a couple as a matter of fact. Like someone’s parents that are married and like each other. There will be at least one straight couple around a gay person’s life, and it’s certainly gotta be their parents if they were raised in the “traditional” household (this word makes me shiver).

Anyways, plot wise, for the main characters even, I think it would be interesting if the boy Meng Nian had to aim for because of her mother was actually an unassuming rich male that she’s simply not into because she’s a LESBIAN. It’s not “Oh I can’t be with you because you are taken/I saw sister first”, it’s simply because she couldn’t even force herself to be in a relationship with him. And also, without “him” being a woman it would save us all the struggle of having to see the “Oh so she’s also oppressed and the FL evil morher’s plan would ultimately fail because of the circumstances in the rich family she wants to marry her daughter off to” plot and instead give us much more time to focus on the main couple.

Just a “there is this boy and he is actually in love with someone else + the main love interested in this story is not into him (or boys)” as a footnote would be sufficient imo. The “*gasp* oh no it turns out he was a woman all along because society and stuff” storyline is… a bit overused i’d say. I can’t name stories off the bat but I have seen it more often than I’d like. The first few times it’s interesting, but when you notice this is done solely for the purpose of making everyone around the main couple gay it starts to feel a bit lazy. Just focus on the main GL couple instead and have straights be side characters that are just there… existing.

P.S: This seems to be more filled with rage than I would like, but it’s 4AM and I need to be fast with my writing.
Also, this could have been a swift big af text if not for my stupid phone accidentally posting the first part instead of me being able to finish + filter my thoughts a bit. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧ (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
