Well, she did once loved and cared for him. It’s not that easy letting go of someone especially you know you can help them avoid their ill-fated future :(
They got along for some time in their past life right before the doctor came into the picture and ruined everything. So, I think she still holds onto those feelings of affection and love for him. I just think she was in denial about her feelings and wanting to live a different life so badly. Now that she realizes what will happen to him she wants to avoid it or at least help him with the letters.
