I’ll try to explain my perspective but I’m just basing this on the notes I have written down not to forget the plot so sorry if I confuse some facts
Basically, Ayna was a vessel for a goddess and she was blessed by her but she was not a goddess herself. She would just randomly get possessed by the goddess, and it was the goddess who wanted the emperor to use his wishes. The emperor really did love his empress, he didn’t want to use her for wishes, plus he knew when she was possessed and just wished for his lover to be back in her own body.
The reason why the emperor used his wish so that only one of his children would be blessed and the rest shall die was for his wife’s sake too - he hated how she went through the danger of childbirth only for her own children to despise her and want her dead cause they were blaming her for their own flaws. So his solution was - have one child who is gifted (no dangers of labor and no hatred ig).
But it came at a cost. The conditions for the blessing was - an emperor shall never love cause his love will die and his people will die of hunger, live poor and suffer (but they are still loyal to the emperor cause of the blessing, it was pointed somewhere in the manhwa that it’s weird that in an empire where people live in such conditions there are no rebellions.)
Additionally, his wife’s spirit is still bound to this world because she has to pass down the blessing. So he made a deal with the real goddess - for 1000 years his spirit will be trapped to watch his own children die without love and his own country and people suffer, while knowing that his love is trapped and suffering too. And during this time if he doesn’t go insane and if “the chosen one” appears to break the cycle of the curse, him and his wife will be freed and they will be able to reconnect again. So now, we have the MLs older brother who is also obsessed with power and the gift and would be a ruler who would only repeat the cycle, and the ML who is a people’s ruler (like he wants to improve the country and life of the people, not just keep the power among the nobility and himself) - and that’s why the empress (Ayna) transferred the blessing and the ML is the chosen one, who is able to break the curse.
So to sum it up they are all victims of the goddesse’s plot and are suffering because of love lol
Ah and I guess the reason why he made this deal in the first place was so that the goddess will leave his wife in peace? Yk, they will be free to be forever together after those 1000 years and the goddess will no longer possess his wife and interfere. But that’s something I just came up with, I don’t remember what his motivation was, really, it was a bit blurry to me too

Yeahh, I vaguely remember that the goddess might be acting up because she was a goddess of those village people but Ayna decided to leave them behind for the emperor. BUT I’m not sure if I didn’t just make it up or confuse it with something else, it’s been months since I’ve read this
Hi im caught up with the prequel and can someone answer, confirm or correct me.
Why did the first emperor, ronan, gone mad? Was it bcz someone is trying to take his wife away? Who was possessing ayna? Destiny?. Im a bit troubled cuz i feel like i understand but not quite there xd.
