I believe in the medieval period it is really like this tho, saw many manhwas where the whole family tree dies when one of the family is a traitor esp when it's the king they betrayed. This is not only on the main characters but also for extras.
But like it's fantasy not historic so I'm still gonna hate on that one rule of killing everyone
For sure it makes sense because back then they didn't want to leave behind ppl who would seek revenge.
