i guess out of a sense of pride? i think he said before that he was only willing to not expose rezef’s true lineage because it would mean everyone would know he was cuckolded and that would be one of the worst things men feared back then
i would say it's also because he was his only son, and he needed someone to suceed him in the future. even if he wasn't legitimate, no one else knew, so he could just hide it
