yeah, in the novel she clearly expresses her love and acceptance for him- but it ends on some sort of open ending where he decides to kill her but never actually get the part were he does

I don't know what you are talking about, I just told you how the novel ends. Also they know each other for like 3-4 years not much to be called siblings-siblings, especially since they didn't grow up together from childhood. Not to mention they have never thought of each other as siblings Makoto didn't care for Mai he imagined her dying until later that he became obsessed with her, as for Mai she told herself that he was her brother to justify her love for him as only the og Mai's feelings but actually it was hers. Also if you came to comment that, then I suggest you just better not read this at all.

Both of them had made the same plan but for different things, Mai wanted to give to Makoto sleeping pills so he wouldn't go to school and murder everybody and later she would lock him in her room(she bought a lot of things for this), whereas Makoto wanted to lock Mai and confess his love for her, if Mai didn't eccept his love he would try every way to make her love him(but he felt bad cause he didn't want to hurt Mai)and if that didn't work he would kill her and himself so they could die together and like that be together, even if that means he wouldn't be able to see her smile again
