Right? Even if he "now" (in the recent flashback at least) gives a shit about him, he still doesn't actually like the real him, only the dog
real, that's why i've been braced for pain since i started reading this story.
what's fucking sad to think about is that our mc loves every aspect he knows of his captain, but the captain does not. though he does care about mc, mc has to act stupid and be his dog to follow him around and likes him enough to be loved, and the captain gets weirded out when he stops acting in these ways. just goes to show they were doomed from the start.
