He knew his friend committing suicide was instigated by ML(which is not true but he knew otherwise). He came not to take revenge (he acted that way to justify his selfishness) but with hope to get something else when he already had a hunch how the ML's personality was.

I'm totally with you girl. MC just an big idiot and if I may say a selfish guy. In novel he continously said he will take his so called revenge for his supposedly best friend and that's why he can't leave ML side, which I think is a complete facade. He just wanted to be with ML(his childhood crush). In novel that bastard MC even went to his friend grave to say that she was delulu and he will dropped his revenge plan. At that moment I was like, what the actual fuck.
