I think he knew damn well that was his previous mermaid lover. For sure there were details on that body only he could've recognized. Maybe that merman was one of the only mermaids left. But yeah I think he remember significant details that can help him identify who he was
very interesting, so they cut off the head right after catching and if we assume the mermaids tails look the same. do you think he has bought so many mermaids because he cant really identify if the one is eating is the love of his life? even more tragic if so
