Maybe the author showed that he was finally serious in his courting of her and she because of obvious reasons couldn’t get him out of her mind. It’s like setting but also realizing that the two of them best suit each other even after having their own separate roles and duties.
Also I don’t think he was THAT abusive nothing too unredeemable more like it takes time and effort to work. Maybe this story tries to paint that kind of relationship, one where they both want it to work.

He WAS abusive. VERY abusive. Abuse doesn't have to be physical to be abuse. His hatred allowed other people to abuse her as well, because as they guessed (and they were right), he wouldn't give a fuck even if they hanged her right in front of his eyes.

I hate how the author wants us to like the ml and she forces us with these situations like she is forcing the fl only to make him abusive again, what was the point in the fl geting away from him in the novel for 5 YEARS only to come back to him
She was in a good place, she had her own state she was a countess or something and she goes back to the ml and agrees to visit him and start a relationship at the end of the novel like ?????
It's like the author hates the fl
