As someone who is 26 I can’t imagine looking at a 17 or 18 y/o and thinking yeah prime marriage material. It is gross bc the other you get the more conscious you are of your own age and if you have even an ounce of self reflection, cannot see being with someone of that age when comparing to your own mindset at that time. People who go after younger adults are cognizant of it and ACTIVELY seek it out because they want to take advantage of their naivety and lack of experience.
Also I just have to mention that two teens having sex consensually does not justify a significantly older man (8 years) also engaging with a teen sexually. I Don't know where you belong but in many countries marrying with an age difference is very common specially in asian countries. There people won't bat an eye on a 8 year difference. Not to mention in many countries around the world legal age is 16.

People often marry their daughter around 18-25, and look for well established husband. In my country People have stable earning around 30 or in mid 30's.
As a result when my sister got married she was 20 and her husband was 38 (18 years gap)
