i feel like in the beginning he didn't care that much and was more focused on work. he dismissed mc's concern for their son and he's only now upset after his son's death and the divorce. i dont rlly remember but if i'm correct, he might've just accepted that his son offed himself don't remember if there's a crying scene or not. but yeah i think he just realized how much he needed his wife after she left

I think he's just swamped with work.. He dismissed it because their son was soooo good at hiding it. When he died, both parents believed it was their fault. Had Maria not found the diary, they'd have grieved together. I think he's a bit too negligent, but I think he really knew he's at fault for that.
