The only thing I dislike about saysa is how he doesn’t take care of that damn baby, like why would you take him home just to neglect him?? That poor baby is always with the maid always…

While I do dislike that fact, it's true that he still needs to heal himself first before trying to care for someone else. In a way, I find that him adopting Charles is both a good step in his healing process but also a bad one because he clearly has attachment issues (is detached from people). I understand where he's coming from because people can feel indecisive/regret the choices they make- for example you could throw/put away an inanimate object which you bought but later felt wasn't the right choice to buy, but with Charles who is a living person and not an object, Sasya can't do that- he just needs to live with the choice. I think it'd have worked out if he hadn't met Karel again. Since Karel IS the most important person to him and it's literally as if he's back from the dead, so the amalgamation of love, resentment, regrets, longing etc altogether churn into something of much greater importance to the point Sasya can only focus on Karel.

In the past, children were treated differently. The wealthy had servants who cared for their children, while the poor often let them wander unsupervised. Historically, it's not uncommon for Sasya to have taken the child and for his servant to be raising it, although it pisses me off.
