I don’t really think there was anything wrong with the ending. In fact I think it’s strange people get so upset about it. It’s totally human to settle down and have a family. The plot was good the action was good and we were never let down due to the romance that was present.
To me the ending was nice because it leaves the possibility of a sequel open.

You're completely valid in your opinion, but honestly if I'm reading an action manga, I want to read an action manga.
Sure if you want to add romance, make it extremely background, and tbh would've been much better with the only person who treated him like a human before he got strong. To me, there was 0 chemistry between MC and the love interest + it was extremely forced and just infuriating to read. Pair that with the only reason she had to like him was because he was strong, rich, and famous (hence ooga booga brain) made it cringe. The ending was pretty meh to me. It was almost like someone else took over halfway through writing the story, and it sucked (respectfully).

Yesss!! The chemistry between them was non existent! Like i get if it was Joo Hee ( The healer in early chapters ) He took care of our Mc ( before he was OP ), doesnt discriminate him and they'd actually make a good pair. And then we have Cha-Hae In, her first impression of our MC was that he smelled nice... imo its... well wierd. And I didnt read the love story of them bc I left reading Solo Leveling's first ending satisfied and content and I don't want to ruin that. And yes settling down and building your own family is nice and normal but I'd prefer if Mc and Fl had a good chemistry. ( Good chemistry = Good plot = An enjoyable story imo )

Tbh I agree, ik a lot of ppl over do it with the hate on romance subplots in actions stories (to the point they sound like incels or misogynists) but I agree with wanting action from an idk ACTION story, like if I wanted to read action romance I’d read that (which I do sometimes), but is it too much to ask for a purely action plot with no romance?, like if they rlly RLLY wanna add romance in maybe make it a side story, bruh there’s barely any purely action stories out there and sometimes I just wanna read only action, romance is way overdone

Also agree on the romance in SL being weird and not having a ton of chemistry lol, so far the only action story I’ve seen do romance right is doom breaker, I wouldn’t mind romance in my action stories if it was done like that (aka important to the plot and or doesn’t take away from the plot at all, and fl holds actual importance and impact in the story rather than just being a damsel in distress or like you mentioned the whole “ooga booga man strong me likey” sort of thing lmfaooo, also so much of it is so superficial too

Exactly, there are plenty of well written action manga where they have romance that doesnt take away from the plot. Take "How to Live as a Villain" where there are women who have crushes on MC, but it's not shown very often and their interactions demonstrate MC's cunning and manipulation skills. There's "I become the Tyrant of a Tower Defence Game" where currently the background characters are budding their romance and everyone is rooting for them because of their chemistry. There was a murim one (wish i remembered what it was) where the FL was not a romantic interest straight away, and their relationship gradually built up like normal people.
I feel like it shouldn't be this hard to write decent romance to fit the action genre. Literally just write women as normal humans, and build the relationship like normal people would, surely it's not rocket science. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's how dumbed down a lot of female characters are in manga, which is why I'm glad all the other women in this manga are awesome and independent.

I've been saying this forever. What I liked about Pick Me Up is that the female characters actually have personality and are well written. I hate when authors just throw random romance in an action story, especially when the characters have no chemistry and it was basically the fl falling in love first. Like these female characters basically have no idea who the ML is and never really try to get to know him. They only force their way into his life without considering how difficult it would make it for him. I literally hate when they do this and then the ML just takes it because shes a strong pretty girl. Like dude you're supposed to be powerful and strong willed, why are you getting bullied and stalked by this creepy girl when you could just make her stop??
Anyways above all I just really dislike how the romance is written in these action stories. A lot of them make no sense and seem forced.
Why this princess in love with Han?? Like, he hasn't treated her nicely, he hasn't made any moves, nothing.
If it's completing her requests, the whole team does that together, so why on earth she making eyes? The whole "ooga booga man strong me likey" troupe is so cringe and overplayed, like please god I hope it's not that. We have so many kickass women in this manga who have their head in the game, I don't want to ruin this with the author adding in an unnecessary romance aspect between them. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but just thinking of how they so suddenly ruined Solo Levelling still gets me mad to this very day.
