I think you forget something. The author is asian. He/she probably adapted the parents from what he/she sees in his real life, asian parents. They're tough. Real tough. I'm asian myself and i have that "typical" asian parents so i never question about such parents even tho it's fictional
Oh thanks ! I didn't think about that ... I understand better why then. I only thought about the "juicy story" reason. A part of my family is asian but they are not "though" as you say so it didn't come to my mind, maybe I'm just lucky ^^
