A marques' daughter, who is crushing on the Duke, works with someone who has a personal vendetta so she could be with him without him thinking of Rowena. In one of the plots, she wanted Rowena to think he blew up a ship that had her son and Cedric on it. It wasn't the case, but Rowena believed her and tried to kill the Duke and later herself. The Duke was earnestly looking for them (or Damien, since he reveals that he already figured out that he was his son). After her Sui on the side attempt, Duke asked the sickly her if he left her alone, would she continue to live with the one she loves. Rowena answers, "yes" but a flash of her, the Duke and their son together is what she thinks about, despite already thinking her son is dead and the Duke was the cause. The Duke is assuming she thought of Cedric and went to retrieve them.

Obviously that plan failed for the marquees' daughter because the person that has a personal vendetta is the baron's bastard son who wants to make the Duke fall into despair and tried to bomb him when caught. The plan was for him to kill Rowena and Damien, but the Duke sent them to the port with Cedric ahead of time after his week of goodbye with Rowena.

After the explosion, we hear that Duke needed life-saving surgery and the likelihood that he'd survive was slim. Rowena stays by his side, stuck between insulting him and showing him she cared by telling him trivial things. Even became distraught when told by the right hand man that they are about to declare him legally deceased and the son is to inherit everything. Anyway, she almost dies by a nurse trying to assassinate the Duke but he wakes up from his 15 day coma to save her

No, he revealed to them that he already knew. He didn't tell the right hand man nor Rowena that he already knew because no one knew he already made repeated contact with Damien. She was horrified to find out that he knew for a long time and claimed he mistreated Damien even though he knew so long ago, but Damien clairifed (when the Duke was in a coma) that he missed him and enjoyed being with him the most. He confessed the times they met up and how the Duke saved him from a wolf. Rowena recalled how the Duke brushed her off with a lie about that injury. That's also when Damien asked, "he's my dad, isn't he? We look so much alike"

So while Rowena was thinking she was hiding it from the both of them and doing so for a good reason, they were already having father-son bonding and it clicked to her after hearing it from her child since she assumed the worst before
