By the end of that chapter it was pretty obvious ML didn't have any deep romantic affection for MC. He's more going with the flow of what he thinks a relationship is. I don't personally think that's wrong in reality only as long as your partner has the same relationship standards and you have communicated that to each other. I feel bad for MC.
