I think the rape scene can be blamed on the author rather than the character itself. Because look at him in subsequent side stories his asking advice, going on dates he finds unpleasant and actually listening to Hamin during their conversation at the bar rather than being overbearing. Author definitely dropped the ball on that because I never got the impression even from previous works that rape is even something they would write.
