Reading this I suddenly realised what was bothering me: remember those tiktoks trending lately about korean drama female leads, who are supposedly poor, but in the show they have the latest expensive brand clothes, electronics, accessories, etc, as product placement? Yeah, that's what this manhwa is reminding me of. MC is supposedly very poor, barely paying his debts, providing for his parents, and giving some extra money for them is a great tragedy, yet at the same time dude lives in a rather spacious apartment instead of cutting costs and living with his parents, he has all the utilities like a whole washing machine and the like, everything looks new and clean, he dresses in clothes that look brand new and not outdated, and his fridge is stocked up enough for him to eat really nice meals, and he just casually bought a bunch of clothes for his android, simply because he didn't like him in spandex. Like there was no anxiety about spending that money, until he had to pay extra for his parents, and even then he only lowkey mentioned it with the "I have to work a bit more overtime because of this,oh well"-type of attitude.
Like, the manhwa started with him drinking with his buddy until he was drunk that's expensive as fuck. I don't go out drinking when I'm broke. Not to mention, that dude has been on completely unnecessary medication for 3 years, just for convenience, when he could have just beaten his meat every night for free. Like, I know, it's for plot reasons, but still, it's gotta be expensive somehow all this, and him being very tight on money isn't compatible.
Not that I will stop reading, it's just lowkey funny and weird to me

Lmao i just came upon this comment (i don't read this manhwa) and now i appreciate more how realistically they portrayed the poverty of Gig of the Day's MC. He's really, truly poor. There the MC works so many part time jobs that he has no time to make friends in college. His phone screen is cracked. He lives in a rooftop with mold on the walls. He doesn't attend stuff like welcome parties bc he couldn't afford it. He has to budget carefully so he can have food to eat the next day. And we don't see him buy anything. No drink, no candy, no new clothes. He offers coffee but it's perks from his job. He eats chicken but it's his friend who bought it. He can buy ramen but he must take from his piggy bank before doing so. He's out there struggling.

Damn seeing someone summarize Gig of the Day like this makes me feel so sad; but he's out there doing his best, and isn't fishing for pity; but I still feel so sad about it, and wish I could buy him chicken.

Yeah the author did a good job. Even though the MC is literally running from loan sharks, he's not pitiable. It's just that these small details sprinkled here and there are heartbreaking when put together.

well if ure going to look at it that way, they also didnt portray people much poorer than he already is, like beggars or side charas sleeping on d streets, or even lawnsharks for that matter

i think it also goes along w the fact that the standard of living has been great off charts since it's already a world of tech n androids' coexistence w humans where u cant even tell them apart unless u spent time w em and the margin for d "poverty-stricken" are people who have debts n utilities to pay but people w a full-fledged job (plus the option to work overtime at home, as with the MC's circumstances), it makes sense i guess

then again, we dont even know what's normal and what's not in this verse so
