I like that he didn't say he loved her most. It makes the characters more realistic. If you deeply love someone, those feelings aren't going to magically vanish when someone new comes along. I mean, the time it takes to get over emotional wounds is obviously different for everyone, but generally it does take a long time to move on from something so horrible like the death of your most important person.
It's understandable that he couldn't promise to make Kizuna his No. 1, not until he had enough time to finally detach himself from the past (which, I hope, is something he managed to do while he was in the USA for several years).

I kinda disagree with tiggipi, its 3 years already for F@$/^^ sake!! and when he came back that should be the time to tell her he loves her.. a very not satisfying ending indeed!

I totally agree with you,the love for someone so deep wouldn't disappears even after a few years. It takes time to slowly let go and accept another. If he feels that it's her,it will definitely be her in the end. She just needs to be there for him,he will accept her for sure.
I'm saying this because it happens in my life. After thirteen years,it's still in my mind.

then be fucking alone forever
Love the art.. But not my fav. I think kizuna deserve a guy who love her than Asai.. I mean he still doesn't know that she is no.1 for him or not.
