Yall dont understand regret and growth. Wan wan wanted to stay with mumu. Mumu couldn't handle wan wan and her mother's relationship falling apart "because of her." Mumu broke up with wan wan and urged her to "live a normal life." Wan wan did what mumu wanted because AT THAT POINT she thought that would make mumu feel more assured than wan wan chasing her and SOCIETY hurting them. They BOTH hurt each other. Wan wan in her married years is feeling REGRET. She told the woman (who's name i dont remember) that she wishes she could tell her younger self to keep fighting. The comment about her parents was to say. "If they don't understand the 1st time, tell them a 2nd, and a 3rd. As many times as it takes for them to understand." The reason being is yes black haired chick fought for her girl but she misses her parents. Good for some of yall who go no contact and dont miss your parents. The point of wan wan's monolog (as she has gotten older) was that no matter which option you choose someone you love will get hurt. Then she said why cant we (lesbians) have both? Then she realized you can but you have to fight for both. THAT'S WHAT SHE LEARNED.
And to bring this long ass paragraph back to the front, Mumu hurt wanwan as well because mumu also didn't fight. Wan wan wanted to stay in the relationship, but mumu wasn't confident enough in herself. We see mumu get mad at her moms as a teenager saying, why did you let her think yall are sisters? I'd be outright with it (or something like that). Mumu realized its easy to say those things but when they got older she didn't have the confidence to back up what she said back as a teenager. Mumu also assumed that things would be easier for wanwan to marry a man.
All in all both Wan Wan and Mumu love each other. They just didn't know which route to take because yes its hard to lose family and its hard to be spit at because society is homophobic. They BOTH didn't want the other to be hurt or suffer through hardship. Hence Mumu telling her to get married and Wan Wan actually doing it. You see wan wan perspective on that as well because she says to the black haired chick, "what if she doesn't want you to chase?"
Honestly im loving this story. The ONLY thing i wish is that they would've shown both of their perspectives in the present from the beginning and not just Wan Wan's
It wont let me edit but wan wan asking the black haired chick all those "what ifs" was her talking about Mumu and her, but because the topic was the black haired chick's gf it loses some clarity. Everything wan wan said to her was in relation to her past relationship with mumu
