I for example hated Yaoi before and for quite sometime, have this small irk to gay people and what's got me here? It only takes me to try reading a shounen ai manga and have an understanding that everyone has feelings. Everyone is their own person and we can never change whatsoever how they wanted to be. That's what got me walking into the new path and which that I'm not ashamed about. Well, all my close friends know I read this genre. Lol. Kudos to them although they always joke with. My retort is I ship them with each other. And yes, they are guy friends.
At the end, it's all about standing on your own opinion and try understanding their side.
