If the vampire really did kill a CHILD in the beginning, then the author has done a good job making it so a lot of readers won’t care how horribly he’s treated in future chapters. If it’s never brought up again I’ll assume the child died, but there’s still room to see. But if he did then, my dislike of rape in stories suddenly vanishes when it’s happening to a child murderer. A purely fictional narrative take.

That’s what I was thinking, but there’s always the “pretend to be dead until they leave” twist stories like to pull, so I was holding out a tiny bit of hope.
