Technically she met the mother before parents divorced. Arke even knew of Iris's existence so it's likely she remembers her childhood memories better than mc. From hints it's likely that they accidentally found each other and that the mother is currently helping her. Iris says that she hasnt even seen or contacted her mother in awhile but that the letters she receives from her are from the same area that Arke was last theorized to have been residing.
