In fact, it's quite usual that fan translation (the nicely done ones) are better liked than the official ones, official ones pass through checks and the like while fan ones are usually more expressive as they don't need to remain inside a line to get published. There is also the fact that one generally reads the fan one first and then an official one gets out and the impact gets downgraded. It's my opinion tho
yeah the official translations are so obsessed with “localisation” that they completely change dialogue sometimes. and “localisation” is a funny thing to me bc local for what ?? america ?? most people reading don’t even speak american english. i would much rather have dialogue with more direct translation even if the syntax or structure isn’t standard english.
Yeaaah, plus things like hyung or stuff that may not be the literal brother translation don't have an alternative in English, fan translation knows the meaning and let it be without translating while official ones may change it to brother if it's too strict in regulations. Also things like money, it's won if we are talking about korea, why change it to dollars? and some other details that seems weird if you have read long enough
reminds me of how they changed “hyung-nim” to “brother” in “the rogue prince is an omega” and now he’s calling him brother while balls deep inside of him i can’t do this fuckehfhdjfj
i prefer the unofficial translations more… they’re a lot more romantic, especially taeju’s dialogues. and they preserve the feeling of the original more as well…
