He was probably tempted bc as he said it was comfortable, NOT ROMANTIC. If he was with the other guy it’d probably be a safer option in the long run bc he’s afraid of being hurt or hurting the person he truly wants. Its actually happens quite often in relationships like some people get in too deep and when things get tough they say “maybe (so and so) and I could try again bc at least then we already know eachother so it would be a more smooth experience.” He was technically self sabotaging out of fear (at least in my opinion). Some ppl prefer the comfortable route than letting someone new know them for them. So they choose the second option over the love of their life yk?
