Only 26 and already the head physician of the largest hospital in the city? Can manga creators be any more ridiculous and unrealistic with their stories???
Edit: I completely understand why people are upset! First off, the tribe’s leader doesn’t even look Black African, his skin is dark, but he lacks the same facial features as his fellow tribesmen. So basically, it’s openly suggesting the most beautiful, capable, and sensible person in the tribe is the one who looks the *least* African.
The second issue is the author's clear sense of superiority and condescending attitude as a soft-skinned, white(?) Chinese person toward the “rough-skinned, jet-black, uncivilized” African characters .
That said, there are a few redeeming qualities in the story. For example, the doctor’s character is somewhat interesting, while most people try to filter their thoughts when exposed to a new culture, he doesn’t. He speaks and acts based on what he genuinely believes is right, which adds complexity to his character.
The real issue lies in the author’s overall attitude, which seems heavily influenced by her own cultural superiority. Still, I’d be curious to read more and honestly, the target audience is Chinese readers. As long as it resonates with them, the author probably doesn’t care if the rest of us find it offensive.
