With slow and proper preparation, no injuries need occur. Anal sex isn't that traumatic if it is done properly. First, preparation like cleaning helps get the person accustomed to the anus being touched. Then, with a good lubricant, slow stretching of the anus can begin by inserting one finger, then adding another after the receiver is relaxed, remembering to add more lubricant as needed. When three fingers fit comfortably, a penis, or penis sized toy, will fit with no problem. This can take anywhere from a few minutes, if the person is willing and mentally prepared, to a few hours or even several sessions if the person is mentally unprepared. The anus is sensitive, but it can stretch easily to accommodate a penis. However, the greatest obstacle is whether or not the receiver is psychologically ready to engage in anal sex or anal play. Once this is overcome, the mechanics are simple and easy. Plenty of lubrication is necessary and having patience goes a long way. A first experience with anal is not something to be rushed, but it also does not need to be traumatic or cause injury. For those without a partner, or wanting to make things easier on their top, anal masturbation and stretching can be done alone. They also make anal plugs in increasing sizes that help to, ever so slowly and over long periods of time, stretch the anus without causing excessive discomfort. A small plug placed for an hour or two each day will allow the anus to relax easily and stretch comfortably. When that smaller plug becomes unnoticeable, the receiver then begins using a slightly larger size until that one, too, becomes unnoticeable. It is best to stop just short of the size of a penis, or the partner's penis, to ensure that the anus still maintains tightness during sex. Only when the anal sphincter is damaged or torn considerably will sphincter control be lost. So, engaging in anal sex will not necessarily make the anus loose unless severe damage occurs. After all, the anal sphincter is a muscle and stretching a muscle, even frequently, will not cause it to loose strength and elasticity. It takes an injury to do that.

I hope this has cleared any misconceptions. Anal sex isn't just for gay men. It can be equally rewarding for women as well.
