I don't think he understands that part. He's never seen anything like a virtual word, so the concept is pretty difficult to wrap his head around. I remember when The Matrix came out. Everyone's mind was blown, who weren't into philosophy, who saw it. It's only been since then that a boom of media around the idea of a reality within a reality really started to explode.

So, if someone who had never even seen media capable of conveying a world different to our own (other than books, but not in a way that a videogame would) they would be very unlikely to have a frame of reference from which to draw suck ideas/images/knowledge.
