I would agree. Seeing his mom like that as a child may have shaped his psyche about relationships since our parents become our standards for personal relationships. His mom's situation taught him people leave you miserable when you get attached to them. So he never got attached but still tried to appear likeable so he won't be left alone. Since his mom suffered when she fell in love with someone, he never really thought of dating until he found he might actually be falling for someone. And now that he is in love, he is kind of avoiding relationship even though he wants a happily ever after. But imagining to have someone like that in life is also making him think they can't leave him and what he could so for that to not happen. But he realizes that would be wrong is what is important I guess. He would benefit from some therapy so he could learn how to deal with his feelings and anxiety.
Oh man, his entire pov gives me mixed feelings I know he is crazy obsessive but there is affection and intense longing leading to very suspicious way of showing those emotions. I can’t say the uke should run cause they do have mutual feelings from the start just unable to communicate it.
Either the author shows how these two can have a mature relationship by communicating better and actually giving proper assurance with each other since they both love each other.
